| Open Letter to the Executive Branch
Since the council reduction initiative has revived, I will be making every effort to challenge to the hearing officer or the Navajo Nation Court the legitimacy of obtaining the signatures. I have attached a memo dated July 18, 2008 to the NN Attorney General and as of today he has not made any response to the memo. Maybe utilizing those questions in my challenge then I will get the answers? I will say again that if this effort of reducing the Navajo Nation Council is “directly” coming from the Navajo people with supporting documents and that the signatures were collected from among our Navajo people and delivered to the Navajo Nation Council, I will then have nothing to say but to support our Navajo People! Yes the Executive Branch did collect a huge amount of signatures but by providing inaccurate and misleading information about the Navajo Nation Council. I also don’t understand why our own Arizona State Senator Hale is eagerly and doing what he can to help President Shirley? Is this a “Payback” game he’s playing because the previous Navajo Nation Council removed him from office as NN President? We elect him to legislate and assist the Navajo People at Arizona State Government but yet come back to his Navajo Nation Government and say otherwise as a private lawyer! I got a call from President Shirley on my cell phone during the 2009 Spring Session and requested for my support to vote against the legislation regarding giving more legal authority to the legislative counsel. We did talk for awhile and he verbally indicated that he is willing to work “in good terms with the Navajo Nation Council on behalf of our Navajo People.” Now I believe the Navajo Nation President isn’t himself willing to try to work with the NNC and that he’s a lame duck President, he and his inner circle executive staff has nothing to lose but try to taint the NNC!! Adequately represented? When have people we elect to the US Congress visited the Navajo Nation and are devotedly making improvement on behalf of our Navajo Nation Reservation condition? I’ve been visiting our US Congressional delegation office for 6½ years in Washington DC but still yet I see Navajo Nation still in the same situation and no major progress! Why, because these Senators and Representatives have foremost interest at larger population and that they work simply for interest group which funds their campaigns! This will be the case with smaller NN Legislatures, only the larger chapters will be represented and smaller chapters will be left out! Lastly, if they, “everyone,” truly are making argument utilizing the Dine Fundamental Law, why wasn’t any of our elders and medicine man in attendance during the hearing! Thank you.
