| OPEN LETTER TO THE NN EXECUTIVE BRANCH | ||||
| July 12, 2009
NAVAJO NATION EXECUTIVE BRANCH: Mr. President Shirley! I don’t know how you will acknowledge this particular open letter that I’m forwarding to you! You may say it is a personal attack on your staff or as such! It is becoming more and more obvious that your Executive Branch communication director (President Spokes Person / Press Officer?) is literality infringe on our Navajo Nation Government affair and now beginning to make direct responses on our Navajo people publicly!! I say this with respect (along with my previous open letter to your office) and that he may need to be reminded of his duties and responsibility as an appointed staff within your office. I was just offended of your communication director making a response to a Navajo individual in the local newspaper regarding the reduction of the Navajo Nation Council initiative! Many people may argue that your communication director is at liberty of exercising the Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech that is protected by the United States Constitution? This is also true as a sovereign Navajo Nation that we do have our Navajo Nation Laws and Navajo Nation Bill of Rights for our great Navajo Nation! We are elected by our Navajo people and work for our Navajo people for the betterment of our Navajo Nation. Just because we have this liberty protection doesn’t constitute for any individual to confront sovereign citizens open minded comment or opinions! I do make every effort for our Navajo people to participate with our open meeting laws and listen to them and make communicate in our Navajo language. There are always two if not a multiple component of arguments of any “issue” anywhere in the world regarding endless issues! As for your Navajo Nation Council reduction initiative, I am certain Navajo people are in support and absolutely our Navajo people are also against this initiative as well! Where and when the Navajo Nation Council has deprived of their Navajo people of voicing or participating in their Navajo Nation Government? I am requesting of your Executive Communication Director to be conscious of his presence here on a Sovereign Navajo Nation and we do appreciate his assistance to our Navajo Nation Government but he needs to understand that this is the affairs of a sovereign nation and he be cautious of boldly making statements in public of how we should run our Navajo Nation government! The Navajo Nation had come a long way in shaping the current Navajo Nation Government system by our previous elected leaders and especially the participation of our Navajo people! The Navajo Nation will continue to shape their government fundamentally utilizing our own Navajo language of what is best traditionally and culturally rather than trying to exploit of how other cities and state are running their government! Mr. President Shirley; I still have reservation of resorting to and utilizing the Navajo Treaty of 1868 of informing the United State Government that there is a “bad man among the Indian!” Thank you and have a great day!
